In line with the Indian Railways ‘Solar Mission’ to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, Railways launched its first 1600 HP solar-powered DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) train from Safdarjung railway station on Friday. The train has six trailer coaches, with 16 solar panels fitted in each of them. The solar panels will power all the electrical appliances inside.
Railways’ first DEMU rake with solar power hotel load system, based at Shakurbasti shed, was launched by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu. Shakurbasti DEMU shed has provisioned dual fuel arrangement in 16 of the total holding of 1400 HP Driving Power
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2016-17, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced plans to generate 1000 MW solar power in the next five years.
Annually, the Railways are hoping to reduce 239 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions by saving approximately 90,800 litres of diesel per rake.
The Railways have already undertaken steps to install solar panels on rooftops of at railway stations and at level crossings across the country.
Noida-based firm Jakson Engineers Limited (JEL) had been given the task of providing solar panels for DEMU coaches set to be used by the Railways for its pilot projects in Chennai and Amritsar. “We have dispatched solar panels for 30 DEMU coaches in Chennai and 50 DEMU coaches in Amritsar,” Dinesh Khanchandani of JEL had informed Indian Express.
Last year, the Indian Railways conducted trial runs of the Rewari-Sitapur passenger train fitted with solar panels at a cost of Rs 3.90 lakh. Two trains plying on the Pathankot-Jogindernagar route in Kangra Valley section and Kalka-Shimla section were also equipped with solar panels on trial basis.

SBI reduces NEFT, RTGS charges by up to 75% - Latest From SBI - all about SBI

After lowering the Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) charges, the State Bank of IndiaBSE 0.42 % (SBI) on Thursday reduced charges for National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) and Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) transactions upto 75 per cent effective July 15.

The reduced charges will be applicable on the transactions done through internet banking and mobile banking services offered by the bank, the bank said in an official statement here on Thursday.

Additionally, bank has also waived charges for fund transfer of upto Rs 1,000 done through IMPS effective July 1, 2017.

"In sync with our strategy and complementing the focus of government of India to create a digital economy, we have taken one more step to promote use of internet banking and mobile banking for doing NEFT and RTGS transactions by reduction of the charges," said Rajnish Kumar, Managing Director - NBG, SBI.

As on March 31, 2017, SBI had 3.27 crore Internet Banking customers and nearly 2 crore mobile banking customers. Along with customer convenience, this initiative will attract more customers towards transacting digitally.

SBI cuts deposit rates; PPF to fetch lower interest rate.

Interest rates are on a downhill for quite some time now. State Bank of India the biggest lender, has slashed its one to two year deposit rates further by up to 40 basis points. Now the one year deposit with SBI will fetch you 6.75 per cent interest as against 6.90 per cent earlier.
After demonetisation, banks were flushed with liquidity and poor credit offtake has forced them to cut interest rates on deposits.
But experts believe further rate cuts are unlikely till the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) initiates any rate cut. The RBI left policy rates unchanged in its latest monetary policy review in June. "With the yield curve moving down on the shorter end, SBI has cut the deposit rates in 1-2 year maturity bucket for retails investors. With CP rates hovering around 6.60 per cent and CD rates now around 7.2 per cent, we don't' expect any further cut in retail deposit rates, till the time RBI further initiates a cut in its policy rates in the upcoming monetary policy statement either in August or October," said Manoj Nagpal, CEO, Outlook Asia Capital.
Even interest rates on some of the popular small saving schemes (SSS) such as public provident fund (PPF), senior citizen savings scheme, which are considered good alternative to bank deposits, have been revised downward for the quarter ending September 2017. From April 2016, the interest rates on small saving schemes  is reviewed quarterly, depending upon on the yield of the government securities of similar maturity.
Should you continue investing in PPF?
Expert believe that, given the tax advantage, PPF is still a good option given the tax advantage it enjoys. "PPF and other small savings rates continue to be attractive for small investors at current levels providing a real interest scenario significantly higher than inflation. Investors should avoid taking credit quality risks for higher yields as the overall growth and NPA issues have not been sorted,"
Debt Mutual Funds a good alternative

If you are looking for better tax efficient returns and willing to take some amount of risk then you can also opt for debt mutual funds with shorter maturities. Debt funds tend to benefit from falling interest rate scenario and that is why over the past two years they have delivered double-digit return. Although debt funds may not deliver double -digit returns this year but investors, especially those in highest tax bracket, can look for short-term and ultra short-term funds depending on their investment tenure as an alternative to FDs as they have the ability to deliver higher than FD returns. Debt funds are also tax efficient than FDs over long-term as indexation benefit is available on the long-term capital gains incurred after three years. Indexation benefit adjust the gains to price rise hence reducing the tax considerably.
Right now experts are suggesting investors invest in accrual funds for lower volatility in returns.
Accrual funds focus on earning returns by investing high interest rate bonds while duration funds focus on generating returns through capital appreciation by taking exposure to higher maturity papers during falling interest rate scenario.
"Investors should consider investing in accrual funds to generate steady returns with low volatility. While existing investors can continue to hold dynamic bond funds as possible rate cut can trigger a rally, fresh investments are best done in accrual is the possibility of high return through interest rate rally may be lower this year compared with last year"

Mithali Raj The Runs Machine -Mithali Raj becomes highest run-scorer in women's ODIs - Named As Sachin Tendulkar Of Women's Cricket -18 Years ODI Career - Made 214 Score At The Age Of 19 - Read Full Story In Both Telugu & English

London, July 13: India skipper Mithali Raj created world record as she became the first female cricketer to score 6,000 ODI runs during the match against Australia in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2017 at Bristol on Wednesday (July 12).

The 34-year-oldd Raj also surpassed former England batter Charlotte Edwards' record for most runs in women's ODI cricket. Edwards scored 5992 runs in her ODI career.

After reaching at 34 against Australia, Raj leapfrogged Edwards' in her 183 ODI appearance.

Raj, who is often dubbed as Sachin Tendulkar of women's cricket, breached the 6000 mark in style as she hammered Kristen Beams for a massive six over her head. She was dismissed for 69 (114b 4x4 1x6) by Beams on her own delivery in an attempt to score quickly.

The right-handed batswoman has been a prolific run-scorer and averages a whopping 51.37. She is still happens to be the youngest to slam a ton on her debut and youngest ever ODI centurion. Raj announced her arrival on international stage as a 16-year-old when she slammed her maiden hundred on debut against Ireland.

At the age of 19, Raj smashed 214 against England at Taunton in a Test match, which was the highest ever individual Test score until Pakistan's Kiran Baluch in slammed 242 against West Indies in 2004.

Raj has broken and created several records in her 18-year-long ODI career. Only recently, she became the first batter to slam seven consecutive ODI fifties.

Raj was the captain of the Indian team that reached final of the Women's World Cup final in 2005, but were beaten by mighty Australia.

Raj's most remarkable stat is that she has averaged over 40 in ODIs in 15 calendar years since her debut - the same number as Tendulkar managed over his own career. At 34, she still has time on her side to better Tendulkar's record. Raj, who departed for a golden duck in the previous game against South Africa, would be keen to bounce back. A win against defending champions Australia would take India a step closer towards securing a semifinal spot.

Jio's Rs. 399 pack comes with 4G speed data of 84 GBs

Daily 4G data limit of 1 GB applicable under Fair Usage Policy.
 POSTPAID

Reliance Jio ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan’ plans just got upgraded for prepaid and postpaid users with new packs starting at Rs 349, Rs 399 offering a longer validity period as well as more free 4G data. So what are Reliance Jio’s new plans under the Dhan Dhana Dhan scheme? Here’s a quick look.
Reliance Jio prepaid plans: Rs 349, Rs 399
Reliance Jio’s prepaid section sees the addition of two new plans. The Rs 349 recharge will fetch 20 GB of 4G data, and the validity is 56 days. There is no daily cap on data speeds with this plan, although once you exhaust 20 GB, then the speed falls to 128 kbps. Then there’s a new Rs 399 plan, which is exactly the same as the earlier Rs 309 plan. The validity on this is 84 days and will give you 1 GB of data per day, which comes to 84 GB for the entire period. However, this plan comes with a daily 1 GB FUP so keep that in mind. All voice calls, SMS remain free.
The Rs 309 plan is still being offered with 1 GB data per month, but the validity is now 56 days, and the daily FUP is still 1 GB per day. So you’re getting 56 GB of data on this plan. The Rs 509 plan also comes with 56 day validity, which essentially doubles the data to 112 GB.
The Rs 999 plan now has a 90 day validity, while the Rs 1999 plan has 120 day validity, the Rs 4999 plan gets 210 day validity, and Rs 9999 plan gets 390 days of validity, which is more than a year. Data on these plans is now 90 GB, 155 GB, 380 GB and 780 GB respectively. Reliance Jio has kept the other plans as the same, except the first recharge benefit which extended validity and data offering is now removed.
Relaince Jio postpaid plans at Rs 349, Rs 399
Reliance Jio has also introduced two new plans in the postpaid scheme as well. These also start at Rs 349 and Rs 399. The first plan at Rs 349 comes with two months validity, 20 GB data. The second one, which is Rs 399 offers 1GB per day with three months validity, which comes to a total of 90 GB for the total period.
Reliance Jio’s Rs 309, Rs 509 and Rs 999 plan all now have a validity of two months, which means the data is doubled. So in the Rs 309 plan you’re getting 60 GB data, Rs 509 plan is giving 120 GB data, while the Rs 999 will give 90 GB data. However, the most expensive postpaid plan doesn’t have any daily data cap.
