Taxes on motorcycles are expected to reduce in most states with the implementation of GST from July 1 2017.

New Delhi: Two-wheeler makers TVS Motor Company and Royal Enfield have become the latest to pass on expected benefit of GST to customers by lowering prices of their vehicles. Niche bike maker Royal Enfield has reduced prices of its models by up to Rs. 2,300 (on-road Chennai) while TVS Motors did not disclose quantum of price cut on its product portfolio.

Royal Enfield, which is a part of Eicher Motors, currently sells a range of motorcycles, including  Bullet, Classic and Thunderbird.

"The slab for reduction is expected to be between Rs. 1,600-2,300 on road Chennai. The reduced slab shall vary from state to state," a company spokesperson told PTI. TVS Motor Company President and CEO K N Radhakrishnan said the GST would bring a lot of ease in doing business.

"We will be passing on the benefits to our customers," he added.

Taxes on motorcycles are expected to reduce in most states with the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) from July 1 2017, although benefits vary from state to state.

Under GST, most of the two-wheelers will attract a tax rate of 28 per cent, lower than total tax incidence of around 30 per cent at present.

Motorcycles with engine capacity of over 350 cc, however, will attract an additional cess of three per cent. Already, Bajaj Auto and UM Lohia Two Wheelers have announced a reduction in prices of their motorcycles to pass on the expected benefits of GST to customers.

Bajaj has reduced prices of its motorcycles-from CT 100 to Dominar 400-by up to Rs. 4,500 while UM Lohia Two Wheelers has cut prices of its two models by up to Rs. 5,700. Besides, automobile manufacturers such as Ford India, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have reduced prices of their
vehicles between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 10 lakh to pass on the benefits of GST in June, ahead of its implementation.

US SCHOOL ASKS STUDENTS TO

DRAFT SUICIDE NOTE FOR HOME WORK.

PUPILS AT THOMAS TALLIS SCHOOL,KIDBROOKE,LONDON
A secondary school has been forced to apologise to parents after an English teacher asked students to draft a suicide note for homework as part of a module on Shakespeare’s tragedy Macbeth.
More than 60 pupils at Thomas Tallis school, Kidbrooke, London were asked to pen a final note to their loved ones after reading one of the play’s most celebrated scenes, when Lady Macbeth takes her own life.
Having conspired with her husband to murder King Duncan, Lady Macbeth commits suicide by “self and violent hands” after being driven mad by guilt and violent imagery of his murder.
However, the decision has caused outrage among parents, some of whom claimed their children had been personally affected by the issue.
Criticising Thomas Tallis for its lack of sensitivity, one mother said her daughter had been told to write the note – despite having lost three friends to suicide.
She added that her daughter had become “very distressed” over the issue, and had told the teacher in question that such material made her feel uncomfortable.
“My daughter had had personal experience with people her age committing suicide,” she added. “On what universe was it ever, under any situation, a good idea to ask a group of teenagers to write suicide notes?
“My daughter is very outspoken but there are other kids not as vocal who might be suffering from depression. I support them [Thomas Tallis school] addressing suicide but it should be in a supportive environment.”
Other parents branded the decision “absolutely disgusting” and “insensitive”, with one claiming that the assignment had been ill-conceived given the age of the students involved.
"I can't imagine why a place of education would do something so insensitive, especially as childhood and teenage depression and anxiety is at an all time high at the moment,” they added.
"My daughter's friend committed suicide in the last year of sixth form a year or so ago. My daughter has never got over it and is still receiving counselling."
Commenting on the incident, headmistress Caroyln Roberts said: “A parent contacted us with concerns about a written exercise given to a class during studies of a play by Shakespeare.
"We appreciate that the exercise was upsetting to the family and have discussed the subject matter and approach with teaching staff.
"I met with the parent last week and apologised wholeheartedly on behalf of the school and reassured them about the actions that have been taken.
"The parent accepted the apology in a meeting that was friendly and cordial."

MODI US TOUR-MODI MEET TRUMPH-LATEST FROM WHITE HOUSE AMERICA-LATEST FROM AMERICA-WHITE HOUSE LATEST NEWS-MODI WILL MEET US PRESIDENT ON MONDAY-MODI's Diplomatic Skill Be Enough To Take On Trump's Fickle Politics??? - President Trump Calls Modi A True Friend-FULL DETAILS OF MODI AND TRUMP MEETING HIGHLIGHTS-US LATEST-INDIA'S LATEST

MODI Will Meet US President Donald Trump On Monday

  • After a brief stop in Lisbon, Portugal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in United States in the second leg of his three-nation tour. The last destination is the Netherlands. This would be PM Modi's fourth visit to the US, where he forged a close relationship with former US President Barack Obama and called the US "an indispensable partner". However, this is his first visit to US after the Trump administration came to power early this year.

  • A senior White House official told reporters that President Donald Trump's first working dinner with a foreign leader will be with the Indian Prime Minister. The two leaders will meet at 3:30 pm EST on June 26, and will deliver a joint statement along with individual statements. But there will be no press meet, "as preferred by both leaders". The first face-to-face interaction between Mr Trump and PM Modi is expected to focus on three major areas -- defence, terrorism and energy.

Modi's diplomatic skill be enough to take on Trumph's fickle politics??

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fifth bilateral visit to the US on June 25-26 is a test of his diplomatic skill and mettle wrought by the heterodox presidency of Donald Trump. Unlike the Indian leader’s previous triumphal marches across America, when he preached to the choir and enjoyed the doting attention of the White House, this trip is not guaranteed to be a joyride until it is over or not even then.

  • The notoriously fickle and uncoordinated approach that Trump brings to foreign policymaking has shaken US allies. No amount of prior preparation or coaching before meeting him can account for surprise elements that he might introduce. An experienced world leader like Modi will surely have a technique to handle Trump in one-on-one sittings, but the former must hedge against the latter’s maverick behaviour by using other levers in the American system to ensure continuity of extensive ties between  India and US

Diplomatic Stick and Carrot

  • Whenever Trump disses a partner country, his secretary of state, secretary of defence and national security adviser rush in as firefighters to reassure alarmed interlocutors that nothing is amiss and that America will keep working with them as usual. US senators and representatives have also acted as bridges to calm down agitated partners and sustain joint programmes with nations that get caught in the crosshairs of the irascible Trump.

  • Cultivating close understanding with second-rung American policy framers and implementers is thus essential for Modi and his team as they navigate an internally divided and strategically disjointed US administration.

  • Personal chemistry with foreign counterparts has been a cornerstone of Modi’s diplomatic achievements, and he will surely want to hit it off with Trump.

  • But this method of cultivating Friendship and trust has to transcend his equation with
  • Trump and become diffused throughout the American body politic.

  • By thickening bonds with the “deep state” in the US, Modi can insure India against flip-flops or sudden fluctuations from the populist and inward-looking Trump.
  •

  • Trump’s foreign policy is transactional, i.e. narrowly focussed on counting specific numeric benefits for America from each interaction. Modi is a master at convincing foreign partners that India is a dream economic opportunity which can deliver  solid returns on investment to them. He needs to now extend this logic by statistically and argumentatively demonstrating how much material gain the US gets by engaging with India. He should cite examples such as Indian IT major InfosysBSE 0.32 %, which plans to open four new centres in the US and hire 10,000 American workers in the next couple of years.

  • If Trump rants against the $24 billion goods trade deficit that the US has with India, Modi has to remind him that the bilateral services trade deficit is only $6 billion and that leapfrogging growth is currently happening in exchange of services rather than in goods. Moreover, the US’s trade deficit with India is dwarfed by what it incurs with China, Japan, Germany or Mexico. In Trump’s mercantilist worldview of nations playing “unfairly” against the US, India is a minor offender.

  • During the Barack Obama years, Modi piloted India-US relations via heavy geostrategic coordination to push back China’s aggression in the Indo-Pacific region. But Trump lacks the liberal vision of India as a democratic counterbalance to authoritarian China. The erratic manner in which he first predicted that his summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping would be “very difficult”, and later proclaimed that he “loves China” and has a “terrific relationship” with Xi, shows that today’s White White House can turn on a dime.
  • There is a lesson for Modi in the quid pro quo that Trump hopes to secure from Xi, wherein China is expected to moderate North Korea’s behaviour while America tempers its pressure on China for stealing US jobs and bullying small nations in the South China Sea. Trump the businessman loves a bargain and chases “ultimate deals”.

  • In this context, Modi should offer an advanced global partnership on a worldwide basis with the US to counter terrorism and Islamist fundamentalism, which are  Trump’s favourite targets. From Afghanistan to the Philippines, and from the Middle East to Africa, India has the capacity of forging coalitions that tackle jihadist groups and rebuild postjihadist futures.
  • In return, Modi must extract Trump’s commitment to draw red lines on Pakistan-sponsored Islamist extremism. The ongoing overall review of the Trump administration’s South Asia policy is sounding harsh towards the menace posed by Pakistan. If a scheming Saudi Arabia could entice Trump into cornering Qatar for sponsoring terror, India has a spotlessly clean record to convince him to walk the talk on “eradicating radical Islamic terrorism from the face of the earth” by cutting aid to Pakistan, downgrading Pakistan’s status as a major non-NATO ally, and bombing jihadist camps in Pakistani territory.

  • Trump could promise to take the Pakistani bull by the horns and maximise defence sector cooperation with India. But an inconsistent White House does not inspire confidence. Modi will score a national security victory only by embedding India’s cause with practical executioners of US defence and commercial policies who can convert Trump’s spurof-the-moment rhetoric into a logical blueprint for the next four years.

US President Trumph Calls Modi A True Friend

WASHINGTON:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi today arrived in Washington DC where he will hold his first bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump who, in a tweet just hours earlier, called him a "true friend" with whom he had "important strategic issues to discuss". "Greatly look forward to my meeting and discussions with you," PM Modi said, replying to President Trump's tweet, thanking him for the "warm personal welcome". Ahead of the much-anticipated meeting on Monday, the White House on Saturday said that it was "seeking to roll out the red carpet" for PM Modi, adding that it "will be the first dinner for a foreign dignitary at the White House under this administration".

HIGHLIGHTS IN TRUMPH AND MODI MEETING
  1. On Monday afternoon, President Trump will host PM Modi at the white house where the two leaders will spend around five hours together, beginning with a bilateral discussion, delegation-level talks, a reception and a working dinner.
  2. Among the key issues likely to be discussed between leaders of the world's two largest democracies are defence cooperation, boosting economic ties, combating terrorism and security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
  3. President Trump's review of the H-1B Visa programme,is not expected to figure in the talks.
  4. Climate change, though, would be an important topic of discussion; the US has said it will "seek common ground" on the issue. President Trump, while announcing America's withdrawal from the Paris climate deal earlier this month, had made sharp comments on India saying it had made its participation "contingent on receiving billions and billions and billions of dollars in foreign aid."
  5. After the talks, PM Modi and President Trump will deliver a joint statement along with individual statements. But there will be no press meet, "as preferred by both leaders".
  6. A high point of the visit would be the US approval for supply of 22 unarmed Guardian drones for the Indian Navy, that had been held up for years. This $2-3 billion drone deal is likely to be held up as evidence that New Delhi is a "major defence partner" of the US, its biggest arms supplier.
  7. "President Trump realises that India is a force for good and that will come through in the visit on Monday," a senior official said.
  8. Ahead of the meeting of the two leaders, leading US congressmen have called on President Trump to press PM Modi to remove barriers to US trade and investment.
  9. PM Modi will begin his three-day visit to the US with a meeting in Washington DC today with about 20 leading American CEOs including Apple's Tim Cook, Google's Sundar Pichai, Microsoft's Satya Nadella, Walmart's Doug McMillon and Caterpillar's Jim Umpleby.
10. Later, the PM will drive down less than two miles away to a lunch reception in the DC suburb of Virginia where he will interact with the Indian community. The programme is likely to be attended by about 600 members of the community.

The board conducted the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on May 7 for admission into approximately 65,170 seats of MBBS and nearly 25,730 BDS courses. As per the information available on MCI & DCI websites, in 470 medical colleges and 308 Dental colleges will take part in the official admission process based on CBSE NEET results.

The Result of NEET-UG, 2017 has been declared on the basis of the qualifying criteria prescribed by the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India and also based on the information submitted by the candidates in their online application forms.
Out of the 10,90,085 students appeared 6,11,539 have passed the medical entrance examination which was held on May 7. Of these, 2,66,221 were male aspirants while 3,45,313 were females.
Of the eight transgenders who took the NEET entrance this year, five candidates have also qualified the medical entrance.
Last week the Supreme Court had set aside an order by Madras High Court staying the declaration of results and directed CBSE to declare NEET 2017 Result by June 26.

Punjab boy Navdeep Singh has topped the NEET with a score of 697 marks out of 720. Archit Gupta from Madhya Pradesh and Manish Mulchandani have secured the second and third position respectively.
Here is how candidates can check their score:

  3. Enter important information such as application number, roll number and date of birth
  4. The result will be displayed on the screen. Do not forget to save a copy and take a print out for future reference.

The wait for results has been a long-drawn one for students. Results were earlier scheduled to be declared on June 8, but were delayed after the Madras High Court stayed the declaration on a plea alleging lack of uniformity in question paper.

A total of 11, 38,890 students are said to have registered for NEET examination, conducted in 10 different languages across 1,921 exam centres this year. This includes 1,522 NRIs, 480 OCIs, 70 PIOs & 613 foreign students.
Timeline of the events that led to the delay in declaration:
> The NEET common entrance examination, initiated in 2013 to end multiple entrance exams for admissions to undergraduate medical exams such as MBBS and BDS, was conducted on May 7 this year. The results were slated to be released on June 8.
> On May 24, the Madurai bench of the Madras high court stayed any further process with regard to the NEET Result 2017 until June 7 responding to a joint written petition by a group of students from Madurai seeking cancellation of NEET 2017. Alleging the question paper set in English, Hindi and 10 other vernacular languages, including Tamil, was simpler in some states compared to others, the students sought cancellation of the examination and a re-examination.
> CBSE clarified that the decision to set papers in different languages was meant as a safety measure to avoid conducting the entire exam again if a particular paper leaked.
> While the Apex Court initially refrained from taking up an appeal by the CBSE, it later agreed when Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh sought an urgent hearing. He expressed concern the delay in declaring the NEET results 2017 would cause anxiety to students and also defer the already fixed admissions schedule to undergraduate courses - MBBS and BDS - in government and private medical colleges.
> On Monday the vacation bench of SC -- Justice Prafulla C. Pant and Justice Deepak Gupta – stayed the HC order and also barred the high courts in the country from entertaining any petition on NEET results 2017 saying, "High Courts shouldn't have interfered" as it affects the schedule of the admission".
> SC will also examine if there is need for uniformity in English and vernacular question papers for NEET.
> This year a total of 11,38,890 students are reported to have appeared for NEET 2017 exams for 65,000 seats in MBBS and 25,000 seats in BDS. Of these students, 1,522 were non-resident Indians and 613 were foreign nationals.

CHENNAI:Tamil Nadu would earmark 85% seats from the state quota to the students who have completed their class 12 from the state board under Department of School Education, Tamilnadu. Responding to a query in the state assembly, state Health Minister C Vijayabaskar today announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly that 85 per cent of medical seats under the state quota would be kept aside for students who had pursued higher secondary education under the state board and the admission to these seats would be based on national level NEET scores. This apportionment will apply only to the state quota after excluding the all india quota of 15 per cent.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the National Eligibility cum Entrance (NEET) results yesterday.
The Minister also said the government issued an order on June 22 apportioning 85 per cent to Tamil Nadu state board students and the rest 15 per cent to the rest (CBSE and similar boards such as ICSE), reported Press Trust of India.

According to PTI, the move was to protect the interests of 4.2 lakh Tamil Nadu students who constitute over 90 per cent of the total number of Class 12 students. The minister also said, only 4,685 students were from the CBSE stream.

The first ound of all india quota seats registration  and choice filling will start on July 3 and the result publication will be done on July 15. Tamil Nadu state level counselling will start after that.

The medical counselling has been scheduled for July 17 after the conclusion of all India counselling, the minister said.

Responding to DMK Deputy Leader Duraimurugan, Thangam Thenarasu and Ponmudi (both DMK), the minister said the government had carefully considered the whole issue arising out of the pending assent to two Tamil Nadu Bills passed in the assembly seeking exemption from the NEET common entrance test.

In April this year, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami raised the issue of NEET test, at the NITI Aayog meeting held in New Delhi. Mr. Palaniswami had also written to the Prime Minister, seeking Presidential assent to the two bills.

While describing the effects of a national level exam, Tamil Nadu politicians on various occasions, raised the issue of rural students missing chances in competition with their urban counterparts.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda had earlier said NEET was "being implemented" in Tamil Nadu also and asked the state government to consider giving reservation to rural students.

The DMK members, referring to the National Eligibility cum Entrance (NEET) results, said the interests of Tamil Nadu students who pursued their education under the state board should be protected.

They also wanted the provision for 69 per cent reservation to be protected.
